Artist Statement

“Kamu (you) — Kimi (君)” is an experimental audio-visual artwork executed in the format of a mini album accompanied by visuals. It is focused on self-reflection. By ‘self’, it refers to three entities amalgamated as one: the performing artist(s), the viewer/listener and the impartial relationship between Malaysia and Japan. Hence, the title of this project translates to ‘you’ in Malay and Japanese language.

This series of videos explores the parallels between Malaysia and Japan and celebrates its similarities through experimental music and visuals. Each of the 4 tracks are inspired by pairs of Malaysian and Japanese words which share common grounds in phonics and meaning. The artist hopes to start conversations about the relationship between Malaysia and Japan through this artwork. Be it the past, present and the future state of this partnership.
