Artist Statement

"Dari Pagalan ke Motoyasu", is a documentation of artist Egn’s memories and experiences while being in Japan for a study visit in 2014. The drawings prepared refer to places like Yotsuya, Roppongi and also around the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. For this edition, Egn shares the stories based on his memories, not exactly site specific but the incidents where the very thing that happened during his visit — a lot of his thoughts and comparisons between his hometown in Sabah, Malaysia, and the places he saw in Japan. Egn came from the district of Keningau and is currently based in the state capital Kota Kinabalu, a very different environment than Japan.

Artist Bio

Harold Reagan Eswar @ Egn, a contemporary art-worker. Based in Sabah, lives with his wife and two kids and pets. Egn combines architectural/urban planning, computer aided drawing with his experience as an artist who documents his travels and interviews to create a form of visual aid to present his encounters.
